Doubting your worth
Have you ever caught yourself wondering whether you're doing enough, being enough, or somehow falling short of what you think you should be?
Maybe you look at someone else's accomplishments and wonder why your own life doesn't look the same. Perhaps you replay a mistake you made years ago, or you spend too much time thinking about the things you wish you had done differently.
It's easy to become our own harshest critic.
We encourage our friends when they struggle. We remind our loved ones of their strengths when they cannot see them for themselves. We offer understanding when someone makes a mistake. But when it comes to ourselves, we sometimes forget to extend that same kindness.
You are allowed to be a work in progress without treating yourself as a disappointment
Your worth isn't measured by how much you accomplish in a day. It isn't determined by how much money you make, how tidy your home is, how many people approve of your choices, or how closely your life resembles someone else's.
You are a person who is learning, growing, and making your way through life one day at a time. Some days will go beautifully. Other days may feel like a struggle just to get through the ordinary things that need doing. Both kinds of days are part of being human. That's just part of life.
And here's something worth remembering: you don't have to earn the right to be kind to yourself. And you don't need anyone's permission to do so either.
You can acknowledge your mistakes without allowing them to define you. You can recognize areas where you want to grow without believing you're somehow less worthy today. You can celebrate someone else's success without using it as a reason to diminish your own. But more than anything, you can choose to ignore other people who diminish your worth.
Life isn't a competition, and there is no universal timetable you must follow
Perhaps you've taken a little longer to reach a goal. Perhaps your circumstances have required you to change direction. Maybe you've spent years caring for others, working through difficulties, or simply doing the best you could with what you had at the time.
Give yourself some credit for that.
You know the challenges you've faced, the disappointments you've worked through, and the quiet victories that no one else may have noticed. You don't need to explain your entire journey to anyone to recognize that it matters.
So, the next time that familiar voice of doubt begins telling you that you're not enough, pause for a moment. Would you speak those same words to someone you love? If not, perhaps it's time to offer yourself a little of the grace you so freely give to others.
You don't have to become a different person before you can appreciate the person you are today. You can keep learning. You can make changes. You can dream about what comes next. But you can do all those things while treating yourself with patience and kindness along the way.
A little reminder for today: You don't have to prove your worth by doing more, achieving more, or being more for everyone else. Give yourself permission to appreciate who you are right now. And don't worry about what others think.
Our worth doesn't depend on keeping everyone else happy and shouldn't be measured by hurtful comments from others. Sometimes, making life a little simpler begins with the way we speak to ourselves. Today, I want you to write down one thing you genuinely appreciate about yourself, and focus on that.
Blessings in Christ,
Patricia
