Today, I want to let you in on a little secret. I recently bought a new four-pack of Bounty paper towels - full sheets. I am not a select-a-size fan at all, for the record. Anyway, the newer package didn't look as thick as the last several packages I had bought over the last several years. I happened to have an older package in storage (and I actually noticed not long ago that the rolls seemed to be smaller in more recent packages, as well, based on the way they fit more loosely in my paper towel holder; not too long ago, they were very snug in my holder until I had used four or five paper towels), so I compared the two when I brought the newer package home. Lo and behold, I was correct. So, I think the decrease in sheets actually started happening gradually over the last year or so. But this time, the reduction was very noticeable. And I hope Bounty won't decrease the size anymore.
As you can see in the pictures below, the older package of paper towels shows 58 sheets per roll. And the newer package shows that there are only 50 sheets per roll. The package still suggests these are double rolls despite the sheet reduction. I knew you would ask, so I checked - the sheets are still the same size from both packages. So, that hasn't changed yet. But that change to fewer sheets equates to 32 fewer paper towels per four-count package. And the price didn't decrease, in case you were wondering.
For now, I will continue to buy Bounty, because they work best for the jobs I need to use paper towels for. I have tried other paper towel brands just to find myself disappointed in the quality, using more paper towels compared to Bounty, which does cost more money in the long run. I definitely can't do that. If I do find a comparable brand that does cost less (because I do test other brands from time to time), I will be sure to post that find here.
As a matter of fact, there is one brand at the moment that is advertising triple layer paper towels. So, I am the movable middle they are targeting right now. And I'm willing to at least try one roll to find out if it meets my standards. I'm the homemaker/domestic engineer that needs to make the best decisions for my family who will soon be on a very limited budget when my husband retires. And with the price of everything escalating or the pieces per item being reduced these days, I'm looking for comparable, more budget-friendly items to buy before retirement happens anyway. So, Bounty, I probably won't break up with you altogether. But I am searching for another paper towel that I can substitute you with from time-to-time to help make ends meet.
