From Rock-Hard Biscuits to Homemade Success: The 3-Ingredient Recipe That Changed Everything

Today, I want to share a little secret with you.

Until recently, I simply couldn't make biscuits. No matter how hard I tried, they always came out of the oven looking beautiful, but they were as hard as rocks! I honestly thought biscuit-making just wasn't one of my talents.

A few years ago, my Aunt Jane shared a little bit of biscuit-making wisdom with me. She explained that I was adding too much flour while trying to keep the dough from sticking to my hands. Without realizing it, I was making my biscuits dense and dry before they ever went into the oven. That was good advice, but I still didn't have the confidence to make rolled biscuits using less flour. Instead, I continued buying the frozen ones.

Then I recently discovered the simple recipe on the back of a Bisquick Original Pancake and Baking Mix box, and everything changed.

This recipe uses only three simple ingredients. I love that, because I'm all about simple. The best part about the recipe is that there is no rolling out the dough and no extra flour needed. Simply mix the ingredients together and drop spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet.

That's it.

And they are also cute biscuits. Seriously. They look like a biscuit that would have been made before the biscuit cutter was invented. 🌞

The first time I made them, I couldn't believe how light, fluffy, and delicious they were. After years of disappointing biscuits and fear of trying again, I have finally found a recipe that actually works for me and gives me more confidence in the kitchen. Sometimes the simplest recipes really are the best. And now, my family enjoys homemade biscuits once or twice a week.

If you've struggled with homemade biscuits like I did, I encourage you to give this a try. This recipe is wonderfully forgiving and perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a simpler and faster way to make biscuits. The recipe says this makes about 8 biscuits. I make 10, though, because I like smaller biscuits. Whether you're serving them with breakfast, smothered with gravy, or topped with butter and jam, a slice of ham, a juicy slice of tomato, or with a bowl of stew, these biscuits are sure to become a family favorite.

Easy Bisquick Drop Biscuits

  • 2 cups Bisquick
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Heat your oven to 450°F.
  2. Stir the Bisquick mix, milk, and oil together until a soft dough forms.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 11-13 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Sometimes all it takes is one simple recipe and a little advice from someone who has been there to turn a kitchen frustration into a recipe you'll make again and again. Leave a comment if you decide to try them or if you already make this recipe. Let me know; do you like them as much as I do?

Have a blessed day,

Patricia

Bounty Paper Towels Product Review

Today, I want to let you in on a little secret . I recently bought a new four-pack of  Bounty paper towels - full sheets. I am not a select-a-size fan at all, for the record. Anyway, the newer package didn't look as thick as the last several packages I had bought over the last several years. I happened to have an older package in storage (and I actually noticed not long ago that the rolls seemed to be smaller in more recent packages, as well, based on the way they fit more loosely in my paper towel holder; not too long ago, they were very snug in my holder until I had used four or five paper towels), so I compared the two when I brought the newer package home. Lo and behold, I was correct. So, I think the decrease in sheets actually started happening gradually over the last year or so. But this time, the reduction was very noticeable. And I hope Bounty won't decrease the size anymore. As you can see in the pictures below, the older package of paper towels shows 58 sheets per r...

Easy Way to String Green Beans and Slow Cook Them

Before I accidentally discovered this amazing trick that I'm going to share with you this morning , I would get so frustrated trying to string green beans. More than half of the time, I either would not be able to pull the strings off at all or the string would break before I reached the other end of the bean. For a reason I can't remember, after washing the green beans, I did what I'm telling you below, and I was able to string my green beans with ease. It was amazing!  Put green beans in a bowl of water. Place the bowl of green beans in the fridge overnight. The next day, the strings are easy to pull off the green beans.  If you have plenty of green beans to string, you'll want to remove about a handful from the cold water at a time - and place the green beans remaining in the water back into the fridge so the beans won't get warm before you finish stringing them. In other words, the strings pull off better when they are colder. And the beans break better, too, if...

Finally a Few Nice Days in a Row

I've been waiting and waiting for spring temps to arrive for more than a couple of days without rain. And this is the week! We finally have some color in the yard and on our deck. So, I want to share what my husband, son, and I have been up to for the last few days. First of all, we had our first cookout on Sunday, April 28 to celebrate our younger son's birthday. That officially kicks off spring. I mixed the first batch of hummingbird nectar a couple of weeks ago, hoping the males would take advantage while the females were tending to their nests. As far as we can tell, 1 male has visited twice. Of course, we can't look out the window all of the time. But we do look out frequently. And we hang them in 2 locations that we can see directly from the kitchen windows. The rose bushes started blooming about a week ago, and I finally had time to take pictures of them. I pulled out the grass and weeds that were growing around them a couple of hours after I took the front-facing ...
