The Little Wildlife Preserve in Our Backyard

A Little Backyard Haven: Finding Joy in Flowers, Wildlife, and Simple Moments

There is something peaceful about stepping into your own backyard and realizing that you have created a place where life feels welcome.

Our backyard is not a perfectly manicured garden. It is something much more special to me—a little haven filled with flowers, wildlife, quiet moments, and reminders that beauty often comes from the care we give to the things around us.

Almost every day, I'm outside watering, pruning, checking on my plants, and yes, even talking to them. Some people may laugh at that, but I believe plants respond to the love and attention we give them. Gardening has become one of the simple pleasures that brings me peace and helps me slow down and appreciate the little things.

Recently, I spent some time enjoying the visitors and blooms that have made our backyard such a special place.

A Bumble Bee’s Visit to the Pansies

One of my favorite recent visitors was a little bumble bee that decided my hanging basket of pansies was the perfect place to spend some time.

Watching this tiny creature move from flower to flower reminded me how much life exists around us when we take the time to notice. It would have been easy to walk by without seeing this little moment, but stopping to watch brought a surprising amount of joy.

Nature has a way of reminding us to slow down.

The Beauty and Cycle of My Knockout Roses

My two full bushes of knockout roses have been one of the stars of the backyard this year. Before they became too large and needed a good pruning, they were covered with beautiful blooms.

Like all things in nature, there is a season for growing, blooming, and letting go.

A long stretch of rain is expected, so I cut back the bushes and removed the flowers that had finished their season. While it was sad to see all of those blooms gone, I know that pruning gives the bushes a chance to grow stronger and healthier.

Gardening teaches us patience. Sometimes we have to cut things back in order to make room for new growth.

Rose bushes about a month ago (because I forgot to get a picture before I cut them); they had grown so much and had become full of roses since then that I was unable to simply prune them.

Therefore, I aggressively cut back the bushes so I can maintain them more easily. This is the best season these rose bushes have ever had in the 10 plus years since we planted them. And I believe it is because of those rocks my husband had someone put down last fall. They keep the soil moist and warm for the roots, and the bushes can produce vibrant and abundant roses.

Now, I feel that I can properly take care of them after four days of rain we are expecting and as new blooms explode onto them once again.

A Peaceful Visitor by the Fence

One of the most special things about our backyard is the wildlife that visits.

Because we do not have dogs or cats of our own, the birds and other animals seem to feel safe here. Over time, our yard has become like a small wildlife preserve right outside our door.

Recently, we had a very sweet visitor—a young fawn resting peacefully beside our fence.

Seeing this little one comfortable enough to stop and rest in our yard for over three hours was such a gift. It reminded me that when we create spaces filled with kindness and care, nature often finds its way back to us.

Finding Peace Right Outside Our Door

In a busy world, I am grateful for the quiet moments our backyard provides.

A bee visiting the flowers. Roses blooming in abundance. A fawn resting in the grass. These moments may seem small, but they are the moments that make life beautiful.

Our peaceful backyard retreat has become more than just a place where flowers grow. It is a place where we can pause, breathe, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.

Sometimes making life beautiful is as simple as planting a flower, caring for it each day, and taking the time to notice who comes to visit.

And sometimes, the greatest joys are waiting right outside our own back door.

Thanks for spending a few quiet moments in my backyard today. I hope you leave feeling a little more inspired to notice the beauty growing around you. Until next time, keep making life beautiful.

Bounty Paper Towels Product Review

Today, I want to let you in on a little secret . I recently bought a new four-pack of  Bounty paper towels - full sheets. I am not a select-a-size fan at all, for the record. Anyway, the newer package didn't look as thick as the last several packages I had bought over the last several years. I happened to have an older package in storage (and I actually noticed not long ago that the rolls seemed to be smaller in more recent packages, as well, based on the way they fit more loosely in my paper towel holder; not too long ago, they were very snug in my holder until I had used four or five paper towels), so I compared the two when I brought the newer package home. Lo and behold, I was correct. So, I think the decrease in sheets actually started happening gradually over the last year or so. But this time, the reduction was very noticeable. And I hope Bounty won't decrease the size anymore. As you can see in the pictures below, the older package of paper towels shows 58 sheets per r...

Finally a Few Nice Days in a Row

I've been waiting and waiting for spring temps to arrive for more than a couple of days without rain. And this is the week! We finally have some color in the yard and on our deck. So, I want to share what my husband, son, and I have been up to for the last few days. First of all, we had our first cookout on Sunday, April 28 to celebrate our younger son's birthday. That officially kicks off spring. I mixed the first batch of hummingbird nectar a couple of weeks ago, hoping the males would take advantage while the females were tending to their nests. As far as we can tell, 1 male has visited twice. Of course, we can't look out the window all of the time. But we do look out frequently. And we hang them in 2 locations that we can see directly from the kitchen windows. The rose bushes started blooming about a week ago, and I finally had time to take pictures of them. I pulled out the grass and weeds that were growing around them a couple of hours after I took the front-facing ...

Tomedes Free Transcription and Translation

Recently, as you know, I’ve transitioned from a career in transcription and data entry to one focused on generating passive income . Throughout this shift, I’ve realized that I still rely on AI transcription services for the writing component of my new business. In previous posts, I mentioned several AI transcription options, and today, I want to highlight Tomedes’ free Transcribing (up to a 10 MB video file) and Translation services.  Tomedes Transcribing and Translation Services Like other free offerings, these services come with certain limitations and may incur additional charges once those limits are exceeded.
